Victoria’s first female cabinet minister, Julie Bishop, is in charge of gender equality, and her mother, Julia Bishop, told The Australian newspaper she was surprised to hear her daughter had chosen dresses in the size range that fit her body.
She said the dresses were made in Australia by Australian Made.
Ms Bishop said the dress is a “glam” and has a “breathable fit”.
The dress is made in Victoria, which Ms Bishop described as a “beautiful country”.
The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry attended a reception in Melbourne for the new dress on Wednesday.
Ms Murray said the Duchess of Brighton was in the room and she told her daughter that “if you wanted it, you could get it”.
The couple later tweeted that the dress was “beautifully made in the USA” and had “so many amazing features”.
Ms Bishop has also said she wanted to wear a “big size” dress, but Ms Murray had previously said that was not the intention of the outfit.
“She said she’d rather I wore a dress that fit me,” Ms Murray told The ABC.
“I was thinking, ‘Oh, that’s not what I want to wear, I don’t want that’.”
The Duchess of London and Prince George have also worn the dress, which is the second time a Duchess and Prince has worn the same dress.
Ms Gillard has been seen wearing the dress before, but it was her first time wearing it.
“My mum and I have been having that conversation for years,” Ms Bishop told The Daily Telegraph.
“But she’s been very open about her desire to do something different and I’ve always said, ‘You’re going to have to do it your own way, but I want you to think about what it means for your body, your soul.'”
A spokeswoman for Victoria’s Department of Human Services said: “Victoria’s Department for Women’s and Family Services is in the process of creating a new standard size for women’s clothes to support women’s health and wellbeing and support our families.”
We have a strong track record of supporting families with their clothes and we are working to provide the best quality of care for families who need it most.
