A pregnant woman is in critical condition after she was attacked by her ex-husband in his home and she was left with a baby on her stomach.
The woman was treated for a cut on her arm and an infection in her stomach at a hospital in B.C. The attack happened at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Dress is the woman’s first dress.
She was in her bed when she heard banging from outside.
She grabbed her nightstand to get rid of the noise.
She thought she was having a nightmare but when she turned around she found a woman holding a knife, police said.
The woman tried to get the knife away, but it got stuck in her belly.
As the woman tried again to get away, the woman struck her in the face with the knife and left her with cuts to her neck and back.
Police say the woman was on medication, and was able to fight off the attack.
Her daughter was able help her mother get to the hospital.
“It’s a little bit heartbreaking,” said Cpl.
Mike DeCoutere of the RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit.
Investigators believe the woman may have been on medication for some time.
There were no signs of forced entry, police added.
The man is charged with aggravated assault.
